Attack on 'Call of Duty'

Shooting people with a gun in a video game. How complicated is that? Well, in a game called Call of Duty, it's really not all that simple. Which is half the reason why it's such a fun game to play, but lately I've seen a few new trends and patterns in the community and world of 'Call of Duty' players, and developers.

What I'm talking about here is the constant battle that you must face when playing this game online. Currently, Call of Duty has 4 online games that you can play online right now. I'll take some time to talk about each one in order since I do own all of them. (Regrettably).

The best of the series begins with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It's a fun and balanced game, and the community is mostly tolerable, but it there is definitely a problem with playing it. The enormous amount of modded lobbies is ridiculous. It's very difficult to find a match without infinite ammunition or super speed turned on. Quite frankly, I don't want any of that bullshit, I just want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. With that being said, it's still the only decent 'Call of Duty' game to date. Let me explain the rest of the details.

The next game is the least played of the 4, but it does have a few good points that I would like to talk about, Call of Duty: World at War. The gun choice is excellent, and the Nazi zombies are always fun, but there's so little of people playing that it's difficult to find a decent group of players. This is the only one of the 4 games that has guns that are from WWII, but they're pretty unbalanced, it's usually dependent on the players rank of how good his weapons are. The best weapons are unlocked last, so anyone that's not top level has shit weapons and can hardly gain any experience. The worst problem is that the hackers are even worse in this game than any of the other games. The hackers are very tricky, they play like the rest of the players, but they have infinite health and speed modifications. At least in Call of Duty 4 you can tell when you're in a modded lobby, so you can leave, but in Call of Duty World at War, you could be in a shitty lobby and not even know it till you're last alive and the other team is all invincible and cheating.

The game that came out next was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It was a great game in the beginning, but it soon turned sour. Absolutely no balance to this game at all. The weapons are all broken and random in statistics. There are some glitches from the guns left in the game that have not been fixed since the release. For example, you can put a silencer on all the guns to make it so that you will not appear on radar when you fire a gun, but some of the guns (M9 and MG4) don't get silenced when you fire them. That means that the developers have left a HUGE bug in the game. The other guns have different problems that I could go on forever to explain, but the biggest complaint is that the beginners have all the most cheap and underhanded guns to pick from at level 1. But most troublesome part about this game is the terrible, awful, rude, and deceitful community. I guarentee that if you play this game, you will get called some kind of name. They all seem to call eachother by labels like: CAMPER, NOOBTUBER, TRYHARD, SOUNDWHORE, RUSHERFAG, HARDSCOPER, KILLSTREAKHORDER. If you do ANYTHING to piss people off in this game, you get labeled. Most of the time it can solved by muting the other players, but most of them will end up sending you full written letters about how much of a gigantic faggot you are and how they're better and can beat you in a one on one fight. It's very, very bothersome, it ruins the game.

The last game is the worst game, it's pretty much got the worst part of the other 3 games, plus, it's the NEWEST CALL OF DUTY GAME. Yeah that's right, that means that the Call of Duty games have just been getting worse and worse. Call of Duty: Black OPs is by far the worst of them all. The community sucks, the killstreaks, weapons, maps, and even the campaign mode are beyond repairable. Before I continue to bash the shit out of Black OPs, I will say that the Zombies mode is tolerable and should be a separate game in it's own right. But for the most part, the maps and campaign mode for the 3 previous games have all been really well done, but Black OPs even fucked that part up. The maps are close quarters only, so be prepared to get knifed, a lot. The only guns you should ever carry are shotguns, the ones that were shit in the last games, but suddenly are the best choice because of the range of map. The biggest map in the game is still best if you have a shotgun. Sniper Rifles are pointless and they are weaker in this game, so they should be easier to use, but no, they're impossible to even hit someone with. The strategy that was clearly in the last 3 games don't work in this game. All you can do in this game is run around with a short range weapon and hope you have better connection than the rest of the players. Either that or sit around like a bitch waiting for someone to come around the corner so you can get a cheap shot on them without them knowing it, all to add up to your killstreak which will rack up plenty of easy kills. Especially since no one is willing to take down killstreaks anymore since every game is full of new comers who don't know anything about first person shooting games other than BANG BANG BANG, PEW PEW PEW KABLOOY.

The whole library of Call of Duty games are trash, but it's the closest thing I have to a well made console shooter. I really wish I could play some good PC shooting games, but I have a pretty lame laptop that can't even hardly handle Minecraft, much less Counter Strike or Team Fortress 2. I would love to get good at a well made PC shooter like Day of Defeat. But that's impossible. I'm stuck with Call of Duty: Modern pieces of trash.

So I bought Modern Warefare 3 that came out a few days ago. I'd like to add to this post to review it. This installment is actually pretty fucking good. Multiplayer has very few problems right now. The only complaints I have about it so far are that I don't care for most of the guns and it seems like the only good guns are unlocked last. Campaign is really good, but short and confusing. In the first 4 missions you've already gone through 4 characters. Which by the way, you die at the end of almost all these missions. I haven't beaten all of the campaign yet, but it's still a fun experience if you have enjoyed the last campaigns. I wouldn't put this game above COD:4 but I will at least say that it's either on par or better than MW2. If the game had better balance and better maps I would put it far above MW2.
